Welcome, visitor! I’m Kallista. I am who I am today in no small part because of the beautiful mysteries & tender heart-holding which therapy blessed me with. Receiving therapy made such an impact on me that I myself became a therapist. I feel a passion, a sacredness, a silliness, and a seriousness about this work with an incandescent intensity, matched only by the aversion & fear some feel when considering going to therapy.
I welcome, console, and guide my clients through the ineffable, varying, powerful things & transitions each one of us experiences on our journey to self-actualization as our fullest self. That journey to self-actualize as the richest version of oneself we wish to become, where we continue to adapt meaningfully within our relationships and circumstances. I am equally capable of holding lightheartedness and agony during sessions with my clients. I believe in the healing power of humor, play, and levity, and also work to keep jokes in the ‘punching up’/laughing-with realm rather than the laughing-at realm.
I’m a second-order/post-order therapist, meaning I believe therapists use their formal mental healthcare training, and clients use their lived experiences & life-long self-knowledge together in the therapeutic relationship. I’m a Jungian psychodynamic & ACT therapist focused on supporting clients through negative thought patterns, processing & managing emotions, improving self-understanding, making sense of the past to clarify the present & prepare the future, clarifying their values so they can be put into committed action for a better life, addressing executive functioning differences, needs & skills, adapting environments & toolkits to benefit sensory needs, improving social outcomes, addressing interpersonal differences constructively, and enhancing a sense of personal meaning & connection.
I have been an active psych social worker since 2016 and my professional history includes a clinical internship with NC S.T.A.R.T. East, homeless services, an ACTT team, residential mental health treatment, and several outpatient therapy settings. I am the practice owner and solo therapist of Underworld Overcoming Therapy. Unfortunately, we aren’t taking any applications for clinicians for the long-term foreseeable future.
